Summary

This paper discusses the anthropogenic development
of some alluvial plains in Japan. Landforms of lowlands
in Japan have been transformed by the historical human
activities. In general the natural environment of
Japan is characterized by mountains/hills occupying a
large area, many volcanoes, patchily distributed alluvial
plains. Of those the alluvial plains are some of the
youngest landforms.
